Nuraghe San Pietro is located on a small outcropping standing out against a floodplain, close to the left bank of Rio Posada, in the locality of the same name of Torpè area. It is one of the most important prehistoric monuments of the Baronie sub-region.

TERRITORIAL CONTEXT

The Baronia area (where Torpè is located) features many monuments from the nuragic and pre-nuragic era, but the amount of these landmarks is not among the highest on the Island. In particular, in Alta Baronia sub-region, their density is even lower but, within this area, Torpè district gathers the most of them. An area of 91,50 km² displays as many as twelwe nuraghi, a tomb of the giants (there were other two tombs of the giants in the past, which names and location were known, bu they are currently undetectable), two nuragic villages, five “domus de janas” and two niches carved into the rock. Torpè area is crossed from west to east by Rio Posada, which divides it in two: the northern part on the left bank of the river (where most of the district stands), and the southern, on the right bank, which is smaller and hosts Torpè village. Almost all the prehistoric monuments are located on the north side of the territory, from the declines close to the river to the slopes of Cùcuru ‘e Luna hill.
